The Lakewood Equestrian Center

The Lakewood Equestrian Center isn’t just a name; it’s a local gem, Riding school, and a renown in the community. Thousands of people drive by the equestrian center every day and have been to its petting zoo. The Lakewood Equestrian Center has been around for over 80 years and will continue on thanks to the Pilmore Equestrian, LLC who saved it from being closed in January. Pilmore Equestrian is transforming the Lakewood Equestrian Center in an effort to make it more welcoming and fun and inclusive destination for the public. Buildings have been or are being remodeled, new horse riding arenas are having new footing added, and a premier barn will be built this year and available for horseboarding as well as an event location. The Lakewood Equestrian Center is a high quality center with well-maintained arenas, safe stabling, organized tack rooms, and a top notch team. Cindy Flavin, is now
running the Lakewood Equestrian Center and has made a huge difference for it. Cindy grew up in Southern California, loves horses, has always owned her own horses and worked in real estate development, remodeling, reimagining, and reselling single family homes. So she is happy she can use her passion for horses along with her design and construction experience to help enhance the curb appeal and functionality of the equestrian center. She described her visions for the center is to encourages all residents to visit it as she develops programing to provide more opportunities for locals to experience the joy of horses.


The Lakewood Equestrian Center is now more welcoming to the public so customers can visit the center and enjoy the horses. There are beautiful horses and various breeds including quarter horses, thoroughbreds, and Warmbloods imported from Europe. Some of the horses look like ones in cowboy movies with different colors including chestnut, gray, and black. Some of the horses had early careers as race horses and some are top show jumping and eventing horses. People are welcome now, to visit the equestrian center to watch the horses. There are private horses and riding lessons and over 40 horses at
the center that visitors can observe. The Lakewood Equestrian Center offers amazing horse programs. It has an equine assistance psychotherapy program that provides therapeutic help and is run by a licensed psychotherapist and has group and individual lessons. The center has trainers for anyone who wants to learn horseback riding for fun or train for competitions in roping, barrel racing, jumping, and dressage. Additionally, the center is going to offer new unmounted educational programs and classes for both beginner and advanced level horse enthusiasts. This fall LEC customers will be able to attend a guided tour of the center, so they can see the different horses and learn about them and the center and its programing and community engagement opportunities. Visitors can walk by stalls and see how stunning and silly the horses are and even get a friendly smile and welcome from Fly the horse who is Grand Prix jumper and can jump a meter 50!

There are going to be horse exhibitions so the public can have fun watching horses perform jumps, dances and tricks. A new horse class is going to be available for beginner horse enthusiasts to learn the basics of caring for horses. The class will teach how to feed horses, how to groom horse’s hair, how to put on a saddle, and overall how to care for horses. There will be more trainers arriving in fall to teach horseback riding classes for all levels and goals. The Lakewood Equestrian Center is partnering with schools to offer equine classes. The centers goal is to give back to the community. Being around horses can provide people with peace, serenity, joy, and tranquility. The Lakewood Equestrian Center is changing to give new opportunities for all to experience the beauty of horses.

Aquarium of the Pacific

In the harbor in Long Beach, California, is the Aquarium of the Pacific, Southern California’s largest aquarium. It offers visitors a view inside the wonders of the Pacific Ocean. The aquarium has over 1.5 million visitors annually and amazes them with its fascinating marine life, exhibits, and education.

The Aquarium of the Pacific contains over 11,000 animals from the Pacific Ocean and visitors can learn about them in the three main galleries the Southern California and Baja, Northern Pacific, and Tropical Pacific.

The Southern California and Baja Gallery showcases leopard sharks, large sea bass, and unique fish. The gallery also has seals, sea lions, rays, and shorebirds. Visitors can experience the rays and sharks firsthand by touching them in the small pools. It is a wonderful opportunity many enjoy.

The spectacular Northern Pacific Gallery includes sea otters, puffins, and a giant octopus. Visitors can see the animals up close and learn about them. It is a memorable experience for many who can’t always see the creatures when they go to the ocean.

The Tropical Pacific Gallery includes the Tropical Reef Habitat, which is the aquarium’s largest exhibit. The gallery has various tropical fish, coral, sea turtles, and sharks. There are also seahorse and sea dragons that impress visitors.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is always expanding with new opportunities and programs to educate the community about the ocean.  There is going to be an opera team performing, penguins that visitors can see, and more marine life that visitors can watch and experience. The aquarium team partners with local residents to clean the beaches in Long Beach. The aquarium is a nonprofit organization and always focuses on its goals to educate the community about the ocean and marine life importance and to ocean species and strive to protect the ocean and keep it clean. Visiting the aquarium is important and a fun opportunity for everyone.
